No problem is too big or too small – we are here to listen and support you. Our Helpline service is available for any young person anywhere in New Zealand, or anyone who is supporting a young person. We are happy to chat with parents, grandparents, friends, whānau, teachers, coaches and more. Being supported as the support person is incredibly important. When you get in touch, your call or message will be answered by a Helpline counsellor. They will introduce themselves and ask you a little about yourself and how they can help. You can say anything you want in confidence. In fact, you don’t even need to use your own name. If you are in a difficult position they may ask you how they can help and may offer some ideas, but it is not for them to make judgments or tell you what to do. They will work things out with you, not for you. Sometimes working through a problem might take more than one conversation, and that is okay. Our team will not judge or criticise you, or tell you what to do. You might be asked how you are feeling and be invited to talk about your feelings. We try to provide a comfortable and accepting experience to give you the time and space that you need to talk if you want to. You do not have to be in a crisis situation to get in touch. People call for all sorts of reasons; because they feel alone, or because they lost someone they care for, others because they are having difficulties making their relationships work.

Compassionate, holistic antenatal classes celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community
Taught by registered midwives, and IBCLC lactation consultant
Having a baby is so often steeped in heteronormativity, that it can be a barrier to rainbow families accessing education about pregnancy, birth and parenting. Mainstream antenatal classes are often not an inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ parents. They often split the classes into groups: the 'mums' and the 'dads' . So for people who don't identify as mum or dad or perhaps have two mums in their family, what do they do? Which group do they go in? EMPWR's antenatal classes are designed differently; they are grounded in reproductive justice, bodily autonomy and self determination.
EMPWR classes are for any parent who wants to experience antenatal education in a new and innovative way.

Refugee and Migrant
RIMA communities often find it hard to access health and wellbeing services because of difficulties such as language barriers, cultural misunderstandings, lack of information or transport and housing issues. Our RIMA Wellbeing programme sits under Connecting Communities team and works in conjunction with Te Whatu Ora - MidCentral and Ora Konnect.
The programme helps to develop better communication and connection between service providers and MidCentral RIMA communities to bring about better health outcomes. It does this by identifying current and potential barriers to access and working to develop solutions to those barriers.
Our RIMA Podcast series provides an opportunity for our communities to listen about all things health and wellbeing to bridge those gaps by supporting RIMA communities to access the health services available in our rohe. Take a listen! https://youtu.be/z1G8d3BufUA
